I read the first book The First King and really liked it. Just finished reading The First Prince and I was not disappointed. Great story with great characters. Both books stand on their own even though the second book is a continuation of the story. Excellent series. Looking forward to the next book.

The First King

Memories of the First King by Jerry Owens is an historical fiction fantasy that spans decades as it follows Brutus and four generations of his ancestors through the fall of Troy to the founding of Britain. It's written in a style that perfectly for the time period it covers and delivers a story reminiscent of a long-lost ancient myth of what became of the survivors of Troy following its downfall at the hand of the Greeks. Gods, monsters, harpies, giants, magic, and a bevy of hard-fought battles are all woven into a well-scripted adventure.

Owens begins Memories of the First King with our hero, Brutus, leading Troy’s descendants that he and his forefathers gathered from the many places they’d scattered to following Troy’s destruction, to the shores of a mysterious land filled with giants. Brutus, the declared king of his people, leads them against the giants, intent on gaining a foothold for his followers to make habitable.

To memorialize the history of what’s become of the Trojan people, all the sacrifices and battles they've endured to reach the shores of their new home, Brutus recounts the heroic efforts of his ancestors passed down through the ages. As Brutus tells his tale, we’re taken on an exciting journey. Just when Brutus circles back to the present, he and his people face annihilation from an old foe.

Owens delivers an exciting climax and much like history itself, nothing is forever. For anyone who is a fan of fantasy and historical fiction, you will thoroughly enjoy Memories of the First King… just like I did!

This is a book that I recommend to almost anyone. Just reading it will make you feel more intelligent. Not only do you get immersed in a time and place completely different than our own, there are elements of architecture, religion, mystery, intrigue and more. Truly this book has it all. The historical details are fascinating.

As I delved into the story, I found myself captivated by the rich tapestry of characters and events spanning a millennium before the rise of the Roman Empire. It captivates your mind and explodes your imagination into a million little pieces. The author writes masterfully and takes a beautiful story, with intriguing characters, and puts them in a landscape only available to our imaginations.

The interweaving lives of the characters manage to show us how the mainstays of human nature haven’t really changed much. it gives us insight into our own history and helps us appreciate the benefits of a few modern constructs in society. Yet, still, I was left saying...things haven’t changed much, have they?

With its compelling characters, richly imagined world, and engaging plot, this book left an indelible impression on me, reminding me of the enduring power of storytelling to transport us to realms both fantastical and familiar. It has all of the things that make up a great story. I laughed, I cried, I cheered...read this, at some point in your lifetime.
